Everyone has that one person in their life who says they want nothing for Christmas. And though you’ve thought long and hard, you have absolutely no idea what to get them. Sometimes it’s because they don’t want anything, or in my case, you have a mom who buys herself everything she wants, leaving you nothing to get her. Either way, you are left roaming stores aimlessly. You’ve checked everyone off your Christmas gift list, except that one person. Ugh! So frustrating!

So what do you get these hard to gift people?

Fuzzy Blankets

I grew up in South Florida, where it is hot and humid year-round, so I never understood the hype around a really warm, fuzzy blanket. But then I moved to Chicago and now live in Portland, and I can say with 100% certainty that you can never have enough fuzzy blankets. They are amazing, but I probably don’t have to tell you that. I’m just late to the party.

Pro tip: if they are an avid reader, then buy them the fuzzy blanket hoodie. Nothing is more frustrating than when you are trying to read but can’t get comfy under a blanket. An absolute genius of a person took the fuzzy blanket and turned it into a hoodie. 10/10 would recommend it for anyone who likes to read.

Tea and Coffee

Most of us fall into one of these two categories. Either you are a tea drinker or a coffee drinker. You have the outliers who like both and the anarchists who would rather have an energy drink.

There are many different things you can get either group. There is an assortment of cool gadgets you can purchase between getting them actual fancy tea leaves or coffee beans. For tea drinkers, you can purchase a cool looking teapot, a loose leaf tea infuser or an assortment of honey. For coffee drinkers, look into milk frothers, bean grinders, or a cold brew jug. These are sure-fire present that will make them smile. I promise.

Pro tip: Make sure to buy them their favorite tea or coffee while you are at it.

Spa Kit

If I’m completely honest with myself, I know I can be annoying. So what better way to help my mom or sister get over their frustration with me than with a nice little spa package.

For my mom, I will send her to the spa, but that’s because she is boujee. Not going to lie, that crap gets expensive real fast, but she deserves it. And while I love my sister (I’ll never tell that to her face.) I won’t drop that kind of money on a freaking 15-year-old. So what do I do instead? Simple, bring the spa to her.

I know a lot of guys might be freaking out thinking, “I don’t even know where to start!” But it’s the easiest thing in the world. The first step is to go to CVS, Target, or Walmart and go to their beauty/shampoo section and look around. The basics of what you’ll want to get are as follows: a nice candle (I like lavender), a face mask and a face scrub (No, they aren’t the same thing), a bath bomb, body scrub, and body lotion. You can grab other things you see that you think they might like, but those are the basics. Also, make sure to get a nice-ish basket to put it all in. That way, it looks all nice and pretty.

Pro-tip: If they are old enough, throw in a bottle of their favorite wine or beer along with the spa kit.

Hoodie/Sweatpants

I’m not a fan of receiving clothes on Christmas. It just never goes well, but if someone bought me a new hoodie or sweatpants this year, then I would be so happy. Let’s be honest; we all have been living in the same sweats and hoodie all year. Maybe it’s time to add a new set into a rotation. It’s not that complicated either. When in doubt, go with the classic light grey look, and you are set.

Pro-tip: Find out how they like their sweats or hoodies to fit. I have hoodies that I wear exclusively at home because they are three times the size they should be, but they are comfy and cozy. Do a little research and buy accordingly.

Amazon Gift Card

Sometimes, it is impossible to find a gift for someone, and if that is the case, then the best thing you can do is give them autonomy. Think about the last time you got a horrible gift, and you had to smile and pretend like it was amazing. Don’t put someone else in that position.

Sure, a gift card can feel impersonal, but sometimes it’s the best thing you can get someone. I love gift cards. (To any family reading this. Please do not be afraid to get me a gift card. Thanks!)

Do you have stuff you want to buy but can’t bring yourself to use your own money to buy them? Cause same. I’ve wanted a garlic press and Microplane zester for the longest, but I can’t bring myself to buy them. But I guarantee you that if I had gift cards, I would buy them immediately.

Pro-tip: It doesn’t have to be an Amazon gift card. It’s just pretty universal. If you know that person likes to shop in a specific store, then get them a gift card there. If the person is a gamer, then buy them a three-month online subscription to whatever console they use.

To sum it up…

Shopping for some people can be easier than for others. For some, it feels like it’s impossible to find them a gift. Uncomplicate your life by thinking practical.

The greatest gift I have ever received was this little wooden owl that holds my glasses. It is the cheapest thing my mom and sister have ever gotten me, but I use it every night. So don’t stress yourself out by holding onto some insane standard. Sometimes all people need is a place to put their glasses before bed.

P.S. Here are some handy tips for Christmas Shopping on a Budget.
